Kickin' Things Off...

Getting ready for a cross-country road trip, this blog will be a diary of sorts.  I'm not much at writing stuff down, but I'm going to try to write about my travels, and whatever pops into my mind. You're welcome to tag along.

  2. getting started. I have professed the need to Bug out if you live in a city or suburb. The reason is simple, Security. In the past I have explained how to pre-position food weapons and materials.. Well here I go practicing what I have preached.
First I will give you some info about myself and the area I plant to B.O. too. I am past 55 and overweight, I have asthma type 2 diabetes and have had 3 serious heart attacks. I also have several herniated ad ruptured discs and my left knee, and hip are in need of replacement. Both of my shoulders have been fixed and the right one is ripped again. My income is severely limited by the fixed income I enjoy.
So if you think you are not physically able to help yourself it's best to suck a tail pipe and leave the Living to those who want to Live.
Location; choosing a place is as varied as are people. here are some statistics out of a road Atlas to give you an idea. Florida 342 people per square mile (ppsm), Wyoming 0.5 ppsm, Oklahoma 51 ppsm, Kansas 34 ppsm, Main 42 ppsm, Massachusettes 833 ppsm. I chose a state with a lowere number of ppsm. A second and very important item is , can I secure the location. And if you don't have water YOU DIE. My location is a minimum of 70 miles from a metro area and at least 5 miles from a hard road and no where near an interstate. I have some neighbors bt they are the self sufficient types. The nearest town of Size 2,500 people is 22 miles away. My land Borders federal land. I am redoing this site because I sold the last cabin to some new neighbors in order to acquire a more level piece of dirt and give them the ability to remove my old cabin and improve their view of a lake. Being a good neighbor keeps your stuff safe when U ain't there.

  3. This will kick off some of the preparing I have done to this point. First I had to acquire a vehicle because we only had 1. I tried buying a late model PU but the prices were astronomical and they had no warrenties. I researched the small trucks but only Toyota and Nissan still make those. I'm not a fanatic but I try to buy American whenever possible. after trying to buy a Basic truck from Ram and Chevy and having the sales people in 5 different dealerships laugh at me I went to a ford dealer that happily gave me exactly what I wanted and we quickly agreed to 19500 out the door. I hate buying vehicles. It only has Auto/Air and a receiver hitch and spray-in bedliner, I added a headache Rack after I got it home. This unfancy truck should blend in with all the other white pickups on the road. I don't want to stand out. My current around town Mpg is 18.7 and I will give a trip level once I get to Kansas.

  4. Packed in a semi-hurry yesterday to simulate the need for speed. I rolled out at 4 am
this morning after cleaning and prepping the house most of the night. The Empress had an emergency trip to Maine yesterday. Her mom will likely pass away in a day or two. drove about 800 miles today, I am currently just inside La. I am trying to avoid cites but still use the hiway system.so far I went north on I75 to I 10 then east to I 12 then back north on I55, I am currently eastbound on I20 at exit 171 at the days inn; this place sucks so do not stay here. tomorrow I will head north on hwy 65 towards little rock. I used my atlas & gazetters to sneak around a few bigger towns for practice and will continue to do so.Just in case I don't get to always use the interstate system. well god night.
